A Spiritual Breakthrough Point

The recent economic crisis has rocked some of our basic assumptions about life.  For many it has created a spiritual crisis as well as a physical crisis.  During this crisis I discovered a perspective that has been transformational.  It has created a spiritual breakthrough point for me and others that has led to greater freedom, focus, and energy.  It is capsuled in one word:

Vessel

For many years I created unnecessary stress and anxiety in my life because I did not emotionally understand and embrace what it means to be a vessel.  Plus, the level of success and impact that I was capable of achieving seemed to stay just outside of my reach.  Instead of living life “in the flow” I was fighting to swim up stream.  Instead of mastering my own craft I was preoccupied with whether I was good enough.  I created an emotional pressure cooker that was hindering me and those around me.

Three Major Changes

When I began to understand and apply the insights and practices of being a vessel, three major things happened.

I was able to see life in a completely different way which opened the door to greater peace, focus, and action.

2. My passion and role became clear

For years I tried to do it all myself.  I realize now that if I focus on what I am supposed to do and not worry about the other stuff, more of what I actually want happens. 

3. Where to focus my effort and energy became clear

Knowing where to focus my actions took must of the stress out of life, creating more intentional action, more joy, and more impact.

There is a strange paradox that occurs when we fully embrace the concept of being a vessel.  What we really want in our lives begins to come to us.  We have seen this spiritual truth happen over and over.  While it seems almost magical, it is not.  It is the result of being receptive and then knowing how to respond.

Vessel Is Built on Three Key Principles

Vessel is built on three key principles:

1. There is a spirit or force greater than us that is the source of life, creativity, energy. 

People refer to this spirit with different words.  Most of us call it the divine or God.  Others call it the spark of creativity.  Writers and musicians often talk of words or a song coming to them.  Many great minds talk about receiving an idea.  In both of these the idea is that something came to them rather than them simply creating something.  Virtually every religious person can identify moments when they felt in the presence of God.  They sense the presence of something greater than themselves. 

Most of us mentally embrace this idea.  We know intellectually that there is something greater than us.  The key to creating a spiritual breakthrough point is emotionally understanding and embracing this principle.

If you examine the teachings of Jesus and other spiritual leaders down through the centuries, they all discussed in some form this principle of being a vessel.  If you read the dynamic writers on creativity today, you will find the same principle at work. 

3. Our job is to find our passion and develop our vessel so that when the spirit comes we can be ready and let it flow through us to do amazing things.

All of us were created with a passion.  When we find and master that passion and then become receptive to the spirit, exciting things happen. 

For 25 years we have been teaching leaders how to create breakthrough points in their organizations.  We have seen these principles, strategies, and techniques work hundreds of times.  For the 10 years prior, I was a minister, helping individuals with their spiritual journey.  We have combined the insights of executive coaching with key elements of  Christian spirituality, psychology, and current thinking on creativity to create this exciting path.  The most exciting thing, personally, was learning the practical methods to create a spiritual breakthrough point.    This is not your ordinary spiritual growth process.  What you learn will transform your life.
